Here are some brief comments from Thursday’s practice.

*Roy Williams, who continues to be weird with the media, mentioned the obvious when he said the wide receivers had the day off. The Cowboys worked mainly on running the football during their only practice of the day.

*I asked Roy about the 49er’s Michael Crabtree and how a holdout could hurt his career. I got this odd response about him catching the football?????

*Apparently there was some major hazing going on Wednesday night at the team’s hotel. Wade Phillips had the best description of the outcome.

*I asked Owner Jerry Jones if things were “smooth sailing” during this training camp and he said no. He wouldn’t go into details of what he did not like, but made a subtle reference to the red zone offense.

4th and inches
With the mics turned off, I talked with Tony Romo after practice and I made sure that he was cool with my questions on Wednesday. I got that big happy grin and a “no problem” from #9. There are no hard feelings for those of you who thought I was out to make him look bad. (I honestly wasn’t) Mike Doocey and I were talking about Romo this afternoon and both agreed that we have never covered an athlete in Dallas who is happier than Romo. Can you think of one? He is living the life and he knows it. Good for him! Heck, we couldn’t even come up with a list of 5 happy athletes. That says a lot about the Cowboys quarterback.
